Mission
to Sri Lanka
**CURRENT
STATUS"*
Due to the delayed departure by Global
Peace Initiatives, I have declined to join the
mission to Sri Lanka. I think their goals are
worthy and I hope that they get the doctors,
nurses and medical supplies there very soon.
Just preparing to go has been a great learning
experience. Thanks to everyone for their support
and encouragement
-Beth Alberts
Beth Alberts, CEO, Texas Center for the Missing Missing
Children's Organization and Director
of the Houston Regional Amber Plan, will
be traveling to Sri Lanka from January
17 – 27 with Texas Equusearch and Global Peace Initiatives. This Houston-based
non-profit organization maintains the largest orphanage in Asia, responsible
for 2,000 children, prior to the Tsunami.
Hundreds
of children and adults are still missing in Sri Lanka
and, as yet, there have been no concerted search
and recovery efforts in the area. Our mission there
is two-fold: to assist in the location of Tsunami
victims, and to help Global Peace Initiatives (GPI).
GPI needs the Tsunami victims located and identified
to assist them in carrying out their primary mission
to provide care and adoption assistance for orphans.
Until the parents of the children of Sri Lanka are
identified, these children remain in limbo.
In addition to carrying us and our equipment,
Global Peace Initiatives’ plane will transport
40 doctors and nurses and $40 million in medicine
and medical supplies to Sri Lanka and other areas
affected by the Tsunami. The fuel, alone, for this
mission is $200,000! I encourage you to check out
GPI’s website at http://www.globalpeacenow.com/default.aspx?PID=/respcity/houston.htm.
Beth
Alberts states: "I am honored to be accompanying
this fine organization and these stellar volunteers
in what
will be my first international aid effort. I will
keep you informed as best I can through email,
reports and photos. Please keep us in your thoughts
and
prayers."
